Thank you. You’ll hear those two words from us a lot over the coming months. Without your generosity we wouldn’t be on our way to an independent 88.5. This month we are kicking off a series of listener appreciation parties to show you how thankful we are for all your support.
Our first party is tonight (7/14) from 5 to 7 at our Seattle studios in Belltown, 2601 4th Ave. Join us for food, drink, and music from the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. You can tour the studios, chat with the folks you hear on the air, and peer into the studio as Ed Ronco hosts All Things Considered. Click here for all of the details.
Our next party will be in downtown Tacoma at the Pantages Theater, July 28, from 5 to 7. Again, food and drink, and great music from the Kareem Kandi Band. Full details here.
WHAT DO WE CALL OURSELVES?
Many supporters have asked whether or not we will continue using the KPLU call letters once we become independent. As part of our agreement with Pacific Lutheran University, Friends of 88.5 FM will select new call letters, and we want to hear your suggestions!
First: Check here for available call letters: http://recnet.net/calls/
Second: Cross reference to find out if your suggested call letters are available by visiting the FCC’s Call Sign Reservation System: http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/callsign/main.html and clicking “Query.”
Finally: Tell us what your call letter suggestion is and why you chose it: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/newcallsign
If we choose your suggestion, you’ll be the first to read the call letters live on the air! We will take suggestions through Sunday July 24!
The FCC accepted our application for the assignment of the 88.5 license, and the approval process can take several months. We will keep you updated on the progress. Once the FCC approves the application we will close on the transaction with Pacific Lutheran University and 88.5 will be a fully independent public radio station.
As part of the application process, the purchase agreement between PLU and Friends of 88.5 FM has been made public online. The full Asset Purchase Agreement can be found on the FCC’s website by clicking here.
YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT
Thanks to your support, 88.5 is in a sound financial position to assume ownership of the station. Your continued support of Friends of 88.5 ensures that your new radio station will keep bringing you the jazz, blues and news that you count on every day.
